Time to Think Christmas

I know it’s only August, but I am starting to think about Christmas.  Not just from a business perspective either.  I’m totally ready to put the tree up, make Christmas cookies and watch my favorite Christmas season movies!  I know that it’s still a few months away, but I have a feeling it’ll be here before we know it, so I need to start planning now.

Last year, I was fairly new to Etsy and wasn’t ready to tackle the holiday season.  This year I’m going to try my hardest to be involved and have a successful season.  I’m going to try to tackle 2 of the main plants that signify Christmas: Mistletoe and Poinsettia.  Poinsettia is a huge one, as a cat owner, we can never have real ones in the house because they are poisonous.  I’m thinking both of these might be great sellers, if I can figure out how to do them.  This is something for me to start testing in the next couple weeks so I’m prepared well in advance of the holiday season.

I thought I’d throw it out there….what other Christmas items would you want to see from Perfectly Paper??

‘Tis the Season….to Make Christmas Cards!

My hubby and I are in quite the holiday spirit these days.  We’ve got Christmas tree browsing and already bought all our wrapping paper (even though we don’t have any gifts to wrap yet).  There is stollen rising in the kitchen – if it turns out we’ll be mass producing them for friends and family as part of a larger care package.  Last but not least, last night I bought all the needed supplies to make my own Christmas cards.  Something I usually don’t have the desire or energy for.  Not only did I buy all the supplies last night, but I had to start making them.  Not only did I start, but I also finished…around 2am.  At least it is a fun project and now all I have to do is write some messages and I’m done with that piece.  One thing crossed off my list!

I think handmade anything goes a long way.  It shows that you care enough to take the time to make a card, gift, etc and you had to put some thought into it.

The most time consuming process was stamping.  Especially since I had to be all craft and try to do two toned stamps for a couple of them (which is a huge pain in the butt).

Gotta make sure you stamp the envelopes too – this cute little snowman didn’t go with any of my paper but I had to find a use for him somewhere!

DSC05652While all my cards were stamped and waiting to dry so I could attach the paper, I decided to use my time cutting ribbon and tying all the little bows.

Once the paper and ribbon was attached to the cards I had to cross my fingers a troublesome cat didn’t try to steal them off the table in the middle of the night while they dried.  After what seemed like only a few hours between when I went to bed this morning and when I got up, here are some pictures of the finished products.

Each card also has 2 stamped images inside the card as well, giving a little detail but still leaving plenty of room to write your personal messages.  Since I bought all the supplies and really liked how they turned out, I’ve decided to put them up in my Etsy store.  Now you can have great looking holiday cards too!! :)

Handmade Christmas Gifts

While the economy is starting to pick back up slowly, it still isn’t where it used to be.  People don’t have the money to spend on Christmas gifts like they used to and many are turning to making gifts for people.  Not only is this a cheaper option, but I feel like it is much more personal.  It shows you care when you take the time to make a gift for someone.

This year, we plan to do just that!  I consider myself pretty crafty (hence the Etsy shop) and my husband has gotten pretty interested in cooking/baking the past few years.  This year we plan to create goodie baskets for our friends and family to include Stollen bread from a family recipe that my husband’s family makes every year for Christmas.  Along with that I want to make the hot cocoa and chai-tea drinks mentioned on The Motherload.  Put it all together with some of my roses, a year in review newsletter and a nice handmade scrapbook style Christmas card and I hope that our loved ones will he pleased with their packages!

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

It is officially November and that means that it is okay to start thinking about Christmas, shopping for Christmas and for some even decorating for Christmas.  The Perfectly Paper Blog is in the holiday spirit!  I plan to start blogging more with Christmas craft ideas and gift ideas so check back often!

To kick off our holiday blogging extravaganza, here is a winter themed treasury.  Treasuries are a neat little tool on Etsy that has been on my to-do list for a couple months now.  They allow you to make a list of your favorite items or items around a central theme to share with your fellow Etsians.  They are very popular and it is difficult to come across a time when there is an opening.  This morning while checking out my stats on Craftopolis I noticed that the Treasury Clock was in the red meaning that there would be openings any minute.  I popped over to Etsy and found myself with a treasury!  Problem was I’d never done one before.  So I quickly browsed through Etsy to come up with this collection.  Since I live in LA where it doesn’t get blustery cold and it doesn’t snow, this helped get me in the Christmas spirit.  Enjoy!!
